Shocking is a dice game, particularly popular in Westphalia and in Rhenish, which is often played in pubs as a drinking game of at least two players. It is common for the loser of a game to pay the next round of beer. In Hesse, this game is also known as Maxen in Lower Saxony, in Lower Saxony as Mörkeln or Knobeln, in Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg as Maxen and in the Aachen city region (not to be confused with Mäxchen).
